Exhibition Overview

Tuberculosis, which spread throughout Japan starting in the Meiji era tuberculosis , the “Tokyo Prefectural Kiyose Hospital” was established in Kiyose in Showa 6. Subsequently, many tuberculosis sanatoriums and research institutes were established, and numerous people received treatment for tuberculosis in Kiyose. This exhibition introduces the history and role of Kiyose as a center for cutting-edge tuberculosis research and treatment.

Organized into five themes, we present the history of tuberculosis treatment in Kiyose and Kiyose’s role in that treatment.

Cultural Heritage Tour × Special Exhibition: “A Walk Through Kiyose’s Hospital District”
We'll take a tour of the history of Kiyose's hospital district while listening to a curator's explanation.
Date and Time: Saturday, November 15, 9:30 a.m. to noon *In case of rain, the event will be postponed to the same time the following day.
Meeting and Dispersal Point: Kiyose Station South Exit

Lecture: “Sanatoriums as Seen Through the Findings of Archaeological Surveys: Insights from the Perspective of Modern and Contemporary Archaeology”
Date and Time: Saturday, November 22, 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Capacity: 40 people (20 by phone, 20 via the registration form)
For: Middle school students and older

Movie Night

Library Collaboration Project
We will be holding a brief panel exhibition on tuberculosis.

Kiyose Tuberculosis Summit
The Kiyose Tuberculosis Summit will be held at the Kiyose Keyaki Hall.
With the aim of deepening our understanding of Kiyose’s history of combating tuberculosis —a disease once feared as the “disease that destroys a nation” —passing that legacy on to future generations, and sharing it with the world,
We will be holding the “Kiyose Tuberculosis Summit.”
