Entsu-ji Temple Row House Gate

Although it is currently a hipped-roof structure covered with tile, it was originally a thatched row house gate. It is quite large for a row house gate in the Musashino plains, and its white walls and wooden wainscoting give it an exceptionally elegant appearance.

The records of Entsū-ji state, “The ridgepole was raised on November 25, Tenpō 15 (Year of the Dragon), marking the reconstruction of the nagayamon gate” (1844, late Edo period), and it is believed that the structure standing today is the one built at that time.This nagayamon housed a specialized training center for ritual practices of the Shingon-shū Hōzan sect, where many monastic students studied under the late Grand Priest Yūkō Aoki, who was designated a Living National Treasure.

The building is 14.1 meters wide and 4.7 meters deep.
