Standing Statue of the Medicine Buddha (Chōmei-ji Temple)

According to the legend of Yakushi Nyorai, it is said that long ago, the family Buddha statue passed down through generations of the Nitta family went missing before the castle fell, only to reappear from a hollow in an old plum tree on this site; as a result, a temple was built to enshrine it. It is also recorded that, through the spiritual power of Yakushi, medicinal pills were prepared, and quite a few people benefited from their healing effects.

There used to be a Yakushi-do hall on the south side of the Shiki Kaido, which was always very crowded on festival days. It is said to date from the Muromachi period. The statue is made of painted marquetry and stands 70 cm tall. It was designated on April 6, Showa 54.
